Intromental Webzine interviews bass player Richard from Swedish GOTH METAL band Tenebre ...
Interview by Lars F. Larsen

Could you please give us a brief history of the band, as we haven't done interview with Tenebre before?
"I and the ex-singer together with Fredrik on guitar formed the band in early'96. We have since then released three fullength albums, four singles and changed a bunch of members through the years. Right now we are releasing our fourth album."
Why the darkness in the songs (both titles/music/lyrics)?
"Well..we don't sing about darkness exclusively, we do have songs about relationships, love and..sex. But to be honest, as I write most lyrics, I guess It's easier to make up little horror stories than to write about topics from a personal view. Musically I think we do what we do best, and that happens to be dark music."
What kinds of bands have influenced you to do this cool melancholic rock/metal?
"I think we steal and borrow from lots of different categories of music, but not any bands in particular. Some of my personal favourite bands are Misfits, Paradise Lost, Jacula, Death SS, Diamanda Galas, Lords of acid ..."
Is the relationship with Regain good? They seem to progress a lot in these days with cool titles?
"We have a more than good relationship. We do decide almost everything ourselves- Where to record, produce and of course the covers. And we are good friends with Per, the label boss."
In the bio, it says "Satanic Rock 'n' Roll. Are any of you guys religious?
"Not really I guess. I'm into sumerian religion, but not like I'm worshipping or anything like that. We like to use these metaphors like angels and demons, God and Satan in our lyrics because It fits the mood of what we are trying to get across."
Who writes most of the music, and how do you proceed with the writing?
"I write most parts of the music. Normally I come to the rehearsal room and presents a halfready idea, and then let the others refine the stuff. Then we drink some beers. I go home and maybe rewrite the stuff or, if I'm satisfied, let the songs rest for a week and then try it again."
Have you been touring in the past?
"We have made some Swedish "tours", and played in Germany and Denmark a couple of times. It's hard and expensive to get something big going."
Any touring planned with "Electric Hellfire Kiss"? (any chance for a show in Copenhagen?)
"We have nothing booked at this moment, but we are waiting for the record to be out for a while. Then It's easier to get gigs. Hopefully we can play in Denmark too. We don't live that far away from you, so if someone out there wants to arrange something, get in touch!!"
Sorry, I haven't gotten laid yet, by owning the copy of your CD, although it says so in the CD information! Do you yourselves get a lot?
"We all have steady girlfriends right now..so yes, we get laid a lot. Or too little? We are glad to get anything. Even a little touch on the "pung" by a male fan."
Do you live off the music, or do you have regular daytime jobs as most other musicians in this business?
"Live off our music? In our dreams maybe hehe..we all work or study."
Where is Tenebre 5 years from now?
"Jesus..I hate that..we are hopefully still alive and playing in Tenebre. And we have probably yet again released some less successful records. And we have changed line-up five times."
Please let me know the brand of your favourite beer ...
"I drink anything that's not too light coloured or too much alcohol in. Danish, Swedish and German beers are the best. Falcon "Bayersk" from Sweden is maybe the ultimate."
Do you have a web page?
"Yes, it's www.tenebre.com !"
Final comments for our readers?
"Kindness costs nothing."
