TAD MOROSE INTERVIEW

With a 10 year history of nothing but brilliant progressive/power/melodic metal releases, Swedish TAD MOROSE are now at the forefront of this scene. The latest release "Matters of the dark" might be their finest moment yet, so when Lars was offered an interview with Christer "Krunt" Andersson, guitarist of Tad Morose, he immediately agreed to do it.

Interview by Lars F. Larsen
Congratulations on a great new album which I think is a step into a different direction. It seems like the days where TM where a progressive metal band are all over and that you now are focusing 100% on the power metal stuff. I think it suits your music very nicely, but why the change?

"Well, we didnīt set out to go in any specific direction, we never have. We just write a bunch of songs and they turn out the way they do. So who knows, maybe the next album will be progressive, weīll see."

There are no keyboards on the albums any longer - is this an important reason for the overall change in style?

"There are still some keyboards on the albums but not as much as it used to be. I think having two guitars makes it sound rawer naturaly."

I think I can hear a lot of Black Sabbath influences as well in your music - both on the new album, but also on your last one ... is this correct?

"Black Sabbath is a huge influence, among others, so thatīs correct."

You've had Charles from Lefay guesting on the album - WHY? Urban is an amazing vocalist, but Charles is awful ...

"Well, I think Charles got a unique voice and I really like it. So thatīs why he is singing on the album. He also does some of the backing vocal lines as well. Live, our drummer Peter sings the lines that Charles did and that sounds really raw and powerful."

The cover artwork of "Matters Of the Dark" is beautiful, but it wasn't what I expected when hearing the album title (it's definitely not a BLACK/DARK cover art). Who did it - and what does it represent? Is there a deeper meaning to the sphinx and the alien spaceships?

"I agree, the album art work is nice but so "dark" so to say, but that also has a meaning. It was made by a German artist called Jan Meaninghausen. The meaning of it all is up to the viewer, I know what it means to me. Just like poems, I think itīs crap that somebody who says he knows that this or that old poem is all about this or that. I mean, how the hell can somebody decide that without asking the one who wrote it. There can be alot of thing "between the lines". So, make up our own idea."

You've now been with Century Media for 2 albums - what are the major differences between working with them and with Black Mark? I've heard lots of bad stories about Black Mark - did you ever see any royalties?

"Century Media is treating us pretty good and they manage to get the records out into the stores. No comments about Black Mark."

You're on tour now with Demon. That is a pretty weird choice of band to tour with for your music ... why?

"Well I agree with you, but we where asked if we would like to go on this tour and we thought that it was better than no tour. We grew up listening to Demon so it was cool to go on tour with them and we had a lot of fun. They are very, very nice guys. Hopefully this tour will open some doors for us so that we get the chance to go on tour again real soon."

You have never played in Denmark. Why not? Can we expect to see you here soon?

"We would love to play in Denmark, so as soon as we get the chance we will be there. "

I always ends my interviews with this question ... so: What is your favourite beer?

"Becks!!!!"

Anything else you'd like to add?

"Yeah, I hope we get the chance to tour more often than we have in the past and that Denmark will be included. The closest to Denmark that we will be playing so far is the Sweden Rock Festival in June. Itīs not 100% confirmed yet but it looks like weīre playing there. Check out our web site for more information about tours etc: www.tadmorose.com Cheers."
