This years absolutely most interesting POWER METAL effort comes from Sweden - this is the fourth album (I believe) by the Swedish band MORIFADE, and if you haven't heard about them already, it's about time!!! Pure power metal with lots of interesting semiprogressive elements, extremely great melodies and a billion of other reasons for you to buy their new album. We caught up with bass player Henrik for a little chat;

What is your own opinion of the new album?
|
|
"We are very satisfied with the new album, the songs are more worked through than the songs on “Possession of Power” and we have grown as musicians I think, the album is pretty much more mature."

How has your new album been received from the media (good & bad)?
|
|
"Both, but mostly great response, I think it’s a quite big difference if you compare “Possession…” and “Imaginarium” and that’s why the opinions differ from media, some people probably thought that the new album was going to sound like “Possession…”."

What has the change of record label meant for you?
|
|
"Everything, promotion, selling etc. Our former label couldn’t handle the promotion in the right way and that’s too bad ‘cause promoyion and advertising is a very important factor in this business. Hammerheart on the other hand does this very good."

How was to work together with Andy La Roque? Did he give you a lot of new input to your album?
|
|
"Yeah, Andy came with ideas both for the music and the vocals and we are very satisfied with him as a producer and we will surely use his skills at the next album too. Andy has been doing this for a long time and he really knows what he’s doing."

What has the line up changes done for you music?
|
|
"Well, we have experienced mostly positive things with our line-up changes because if someone quits or gets the boot you search for a member that is as skilled or highly skilled than the previous one."

What is your main inspiration source?
|
|
"Pretty much anything, musically I think Helloween, at least from the beginning and for myself it’s Iron Maiden but many other great bands has given us inspiration also. The inspiration for the lyrics can be anything whatsoever, everything from movies, books to more trivial stuff, anything!"

Do you believe that Hammerheart can push you a bit further compared to your previous record label.
|
|
"Yeah, it’s a label with more contacts than we have experienced before and they seem genuinely interested in Morifade and that’s probably because we are the only band in this genre at the label, we are satisfied with them so far."

What are your expatiations of the new album?
|
|
"Of course we hope that the album will sell good and give us a tour in a near future. The second album is the hardest to release especially if the debut album was a success as the case was with “Possession of Power” and this is simply because the expectations from media and fans are very high on the band and the new material."

Where do you place yourself and the metal scene in a couple of years?
|
|
"We hope to be among the top elite bands and that’s what we are aiming at and has been since the release of “Possession…”, It’s a hard business we’re in."

Do you have any plans for a Scandinavian tour? When can we expect to see you in Denmark?
|
|
"So far we have only separate gigs In Sweden, we were supposed to be on tour in Spain/Portugal in May but it was cancelled in the last minute. We are searching for a production company that can guide us with gigs and tours so we have to wait and see what will happen."

Do you have any plans of showing up at the Wacken Festival as a band, and private person as well?
|
|
"We want to play at Wacken but it won’t happen this year, hopefully next summer. I think Jesper are going to Wacken this summer."

Which band do you see as the most leading within the metal genre?
|
|
"Well, I can’t deny it, Hammerfall of course even if I think that we really don’t play the same music but also bands like Stratovarius and Nocturnal Rites and Morifade is coming on strong!"
